Blue Skies and Tailwinds, June 13

> Here we are pedaling our last miles in Ohio. Our day did NOT start very good. We had our first accident on the bike path leading into Ashtabula. We were all riding together on a beautiful smooth bike trail just chatting away and were not as alert as we should have been. A biker was coming in the opposite direction and in trying to avoid him Rhonda hit Cathy's back wheel and took a fall. We have a doctor and 2 nurses in our group so she was immediately taken care of. After a trip to emergency she was diagnosed as OK to ride again!! It was a scare for all of us.
> We then rode a few miles ahead and were sent to a detour- bridge being repaired. Had to go a few miles out of our way. We had to go through commuter traffic over more construction through Ashtabula (I love saying that name!) over another bridge only to go out of town and hit another road closed sign. We decided we could probably get through on our bikes but when we got there the bridge was gone. We would have had to swim with our bikes over our head. So we had to ride back and on our way back Bettye got another flat!! Number 3!! So we lost the group, didn't know where we were and had to ask a few locals some directions. We finally found our way!
> After getting back on the route we had the most enjoyable ride along Lake Erie. Perfect conditions-blue skies and tailwinds , temps in the high 60s, and smooth pavement. We rode by the Hubbard House which was the terminus of the Underground Railroad. Saw many lakefront homes I wouldn't mind owning with a boat or two on Lake Erie.
> Entering Pennsylvania the landscape changed. Farms, tree farms, corn much higher than in Ohio or other states, grapes(not the wine type), and homes not as upscale as on the lake.
> All in all it was a beautiful ride topped off by a stop at the Dairy Oasis for a raspberry softy cone-almost as good as a DQ!!
> A ride that was supposed to be 49 turned out to be 57. What's a few miles?
> I am so looking forward to tomorrow's ride-NY!
>
> Until then. Donna
