Blue Skies and Tailwinds, June 15

We left Hamburg on a beautiful NY morn. It was a late start- we only had 45 miles to pedal. We rode with commute traffic for awhile through sleeping communities. School is still in session so we met a few school buses picking up their fares.  We even got scolded by a safety patrol lady for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign!  We continued on into South Buffalo. It is an old industrial area. Bad road, old falling apart houses, scary characters walking around, and of course it was the perfect place for a flat. No, not Bettye, this time it was Donna!  Three burly, filthy, steel workers stood around watching with interest as we changed the tube.  They were quite impressed but never offered help. We were anxious to get out of town!!
On the other end of Buffalo was the waterfront leading to the Canadian Peace Bridge. Much more scenic.  We had to walk our bikes over the bridge to Canada. Look closely at the picture and you can see our helmets as we walked at least a 1/2 mile over the span. Once over we rode on a bike path for miles along the Niagara River.  We rode slowly and enjoyed the Canadian scenery. The bike path took us right into the falls area.  We viewed the magnificent Niagara Falls and enjoyed the misty spray that cooled us off. It was a hot day so it was our reward.
After finally figuring out how to get back into the USA we arrived in Niagara, checked in, had a cold beer, did our laundry, had a great pasta dinner and are retiring for the evening.  Tomorrowcould be golf, sight seeing, or just plain relaxing.  Our room is right next to a heliport. We' re hoping they don't start flying too early.
  Until next time...........Donna
