Blue Skies and Tailwinds, June 7

Hot, hot, hot!  We left early today-6:50 am- to beat the heat. Again it was a beautiful but a little muggy start.  We could not survive these rides without the support of our sag drivers- Carol, Rita, Sue and Karen. They rotate the days to deliver ice cold water, snacks, and moral support. There is nothing for miles then a Subaru called "Little Bo Peep" shows up parked in a shady spot with an available "green room".  She always comes looking for her sheep(us!).
Today there was record temps in Ohio. It was 95 when we arrived in Defiance. The first thing Bettye and I did was stop at the DQ for a reward!  I then needed to stop at a bike shop to get a new cable for my deraileur. It was giving me a hard time. Most  riders finished the 84 mile ride through Indiana and into Ohio. Beautiful homes, lots of trees, dozens of cemeteries, many, many churches, and we even started seeing people!  Every farm house has one or two dogs-most of them friendly but a few jump out at us. Scary- but we haven't run over one yet!
Crossed into our 6th state today.  The miles are adding up. Tomorrow we have a short day(49 miles) into Bowling Green.  It is supposed to be just as hot. Maybe I can just melt my pounds away!
Hope the weather is great for you where ever you are.
 Donna
