Blue Skies and Tailwinds, June 17

Left Niagara Falls' bumpy pot holed streets on a beautiful morn after a hearty breakfast in the motel parking lot. You can't believe the looks we got from the natives walking by going to work!
The streets quickly changed to rural quiet roads with a wide shoulder.  We pedaled through an Indian reservation with a lacrosse school.  Instead of yards having basketball hoops they all had lacrosse goals. It is an American Indian Game!
The rest of the day we went through small Western NY towns. Many of them along the Erie Canal.  Lockport had a lock and a museum that was very interesting. The canal is not used anymore for commercial  vehicles just recreation. There is a trail that is the old tow path but it is not paved so not so good for our skinny tire bikes!  The ride was fast and fairly flat all the way into Brockport.  We were starved so asked a local for a place for a beer and lunch.  The place we ended up had a different name but was one of my old college hangouts. Good old Higgens!
After some good conversation with the  bartender and some locals, two of us got a haircut, and then I took some of the riders on a tour of the SUNY Brockport campus.  No students around so we rode all the sidewalks. I hardly recognized the place! I think I liked  it when it was smaller. A
lot of changes in 45 years.
We rode about 70 miles today. All of the WOWs rode all of the miles.  We are off to Rochester for brunch tomorrow planned by the Woman Tours company. That is their home office- and it is not too far from where I used to live. I wonder how much that has changed?

WOW's June 17

Today we rode to Donna's college town, Brockport. It was a great day for riding and even though we were on a SR and lots of traffic, we saw some great scenery. When we arrived in Brockport, there was a lot of construction in town so I really didn't get to enjoy the shops but I especially liked the Erie Canal Locks and the view of the Erie Canal. We ride along the canal tomorrow so that will be a plus away from traffic. Your wishes for Blue Skies is working so keep them coming.

Blue Skies and Tailwinds

Rest day today. So here we are- Bev, Bettye, Jan, and I having a Rolling Rock after a fun 9 holes on a Niagara Falls golf course. Considering the clubs they give us for rentals we did pretty good. Dented, steel shafts, way too long, and some rusty!
Spent some time cleaning and lubing my bike getting it ready for next week. We have 6 days before we get a day off. We will then be out of New York and into Vermont. We then walked to Goat Island where you can view the Falls. They are awesome!! Can't imagine the crazies that went over in a barrel!
1640 miles on my odometer right now. I find it hard to believe. We have seen so many different communities, met so many helpful people, ridden a variety of terrains, downed so many local beers, and have eaten deeeelicious meals thanks to our cooks Patty and Sue. Am I losing weight? I don't think so! Even after burning so many calories during a ride, I manage to replace them in the evening. I have two weeks to get skinny!
Tomorrow we are off to Brockport which is my college Alma Mater. Hope to stir up a few memories while there.
68 miles so I'd better get my beauty rest

Adventures of the WOW's, June 16

What do you do on your day off but play golf, clean bikes, get up later than usual, and walk over to see the falls from the American side. You didn't have to pack your bag either. Four of us took a taxi to the golf course, rented clubs and played a 9 hole course. I had my usual game with rented clubs so must be the person and not the clubs that really makes a difference. We walked over to the falls and it was sprinkling but not cold. The falls were spectacular and sounded very angry and I certainly would not want to be rafting in that water. Our laundry is done so we are ready for the next 6 days of riding and hope our weather cooperates also. Dinner will be somewhere close as we have to walk and we may have rain tonight but I am sure it will be enjoyable and we can catch up with others and what they did on their day off.
I really enjoy your comments so keep them coming. I put more pictures on the blog if you are interested. http://bevsbiketrip.blogspot.com/
